Gonzo was one of my closest friends. I served with him in Iraq, but was honorably discharged before the Afghanistan deployment. I just came across this post by googling his name. Thank you for bringing awareness to his amazing life.

I too knew Gonzo through Iraq but became closer to him while a group of us where held medically for wounds while in Iraq. He was a great Corpsman and a better man. I remember coming on base with my wife to see them one last time before they took off on the buses and a group of us were talking and Gonzo said when they get back we would all have to take a trip down to Miami so he could show us the city and how to really party the Miami way, haha. We never did get that chance but I just wanted to say my condolences and prayers go out to his family and friends back home. He was an amazing kid that really could put a smile on anyones face no matter how bad the situation. Im very sorry for your loss and just know that he will never be forgotten and we think of him all the time and he is a true american hero.
